The John James Audubon State Park is one of Henderson’s treasures and a tourist favorite. The park’s inspiration is the namesake of the park, James Audubon, a naturalist and painter who made Henderson Kentucky his home, and whose passion was exploring the region while painting and sketching local birds. Audubon Park offers visitors 700 acres of hills and forest land that includes old-growth trees, miles of hiking trails, campgrounds, and a nine-hole golf course.
